Dozing in front of the kitchen TV
The clock shows a quarter to one
Dreaming of Pulitzers, fame and glory
He wakes up and sees just how empty his life has become
One more scene to write
One more sleepless night

Looks out the window, a new day dawning
Coffee might just do the trick
Picks up the mail and his heart starts pounding
Rips at the envelope, suddenly Harry feels sick
Pulls the letter out
And he reads it all out loud

Dear Mr Writer, so sorry we have to say no
Your work's too didactic, too wordy and preachy, no flow
But thanks for your manuscript, do try again

Harry’s still there at the kitchen table
It's one in the morning again
Bashing away at his worn-out laptop
Shaking with anger, he types out his passioned defence One last noble fight
